Lesson 1: Ring Size
Determining the perfect ring size can be tricky, especially in a long-distance relationship. I sought the help of my girlfriend's mom. Please avoid the risk of waking her up to measure if you know that your girlfriend is a light sleeper. Remember, finding a ring from her jewellery box or seeking assistance from someone close to her can be a foolproof way to get the size right.
Lesson 2: Keep the Surprise
Keeping the surprise intact is undoubtedly the biggest challenge. I guarded this secret like a treasure, not even sharing it with her friends. Be selective with whom you confide, as we all have those friends who can't keep a secret. And remember, it's best not to carry the ring around if your girlfriend tends to rummage through your belongings!
Lesson 3: Skip the Script
While I received plenty of advice on what to say during the proposal, when the moment arrived, I went completely blank! Despite preparing a script, credit to Elyn and Shimin, who provided me with a structure for what to say during the proposal. They suggested three key elements: "Before I knew you," "After I knew you," and "What I see in the future with you." It seemed foolproof, and I thought I had it all planned out but then later I found myself forgetting it all. It's good to have a general idea of what you want to express but be prepared for the possibility of going off-script and speaking from the heart.
Lesson 4: Hire a Photographer and Videographer
Trust me on this one! Hiring professionals to capture the proposal is an absolute game-changer. Countless brides have regretted relying solely on phone photos and videos. Guys, please take this advice and invest in a professional photographer and videographer to preserve this precious moment forever.
Lesson 5: Seek Blessings
Obtaining blessings from your partner's parents is a gesture of respect and honour. It may not be the most comfortable step, but it's a gentleman's move that will leave a lasting impression on her and her family. Embrace this opportunity to build a strong foundation of mutual respect.
